Do I have to complete all sections of the profile before I can submit the application for a Charles City Dollars for Scholars scholarship?

You will not need to complete the entire profile in order to submit the profile as an application for a Dollars for Scholars scholarship since not all sections are considered in our scoring. 
Although a completed transcript request and Goals Essay are the minimum requirements,  please complete the Work and Activities sections since these sections will be scored and awarded points increasing your chances of being awarded a higher scholarship.  You may skip the GPA per grade level questions, only the cumulative GPA, calculated after the 1st semester of your senior year, is required. We do not require the Reference Section.  Complete the Unusual Circumstances Essay question if you have special circumstances you wish us to consider when scoring your application.


Do I need to enter number of total hours I participated in a particular activity? 

Yes, is required to submit your profile for our scholarship, however these hours will not be used in calculating scoring points for Charles City Dollars for Scholars scholarships. Only the total number of years a student participated in a particular activity will be considered.  We suggest you take the number of hours of participation in an average week multiplied by the number of weeks for a rough estimate.  You do not need to put a lot of work into this calculation.


Do I need to put an accurate number for the number of hours of employment per week? 

Yes, hours of employment is one of our scoring criteria.


Why can't I use my school email address for my profile? 

Your school email address will no longer be valid after you have graduated and we need to maintain contact with you if you are awarded a scholarship.  If you started your profile with your school email address, just edit your email address on your profile.


Can I request my transcript or parental consent before I have completed the rest of my profile? 

Yes, you may send your parental consent request and transcript request at any time; however we require a current GPA which includes the 1st semester's grades. . To give the counselors adequate time to enter transcript information we are suggesting you send your request before February 25, 2020.   Profiles may be submitted for our scholarships without waiting for the counselor to verify the GPS and upload a transcript.  The counselors have the ability to verify your transcript information after your profile has been submitted, however your transcript request must be submitted to the counselor by 11:59 p.m. on March 2, 2020, and the counselor must have completed this information by March 15, 2020 or your profile will be considered incomplete.


Do I need to have a parent give consent and financial information?

Charles City Dollars for Scholars does not require financial information, however since we have several needs based scholarships you will be asked to provide your FAFSA EFC (your "estimated financial contribution" from your completed FAFSA application.  THIS IS NOT REQUIRED TO RECEIVE A DOLLARS FOR SCHOLARS SCHOLARSHIP.  You may also explain any financial need you have in the Unusual Circumstances Essay.   Parental consent is required if you are under age 18 on the day you submit your profile.


I have completed my profile.  Is that all I need to do to be eligible for a Charles City Area Dollars for Scholars Scholarship or other scholarships available through your website? 

No, your profile will be your application all scholarships available through our website.   You must navigate to the "My Scholarships" page to view these scholarships and submit your profile to each scholarship listed.  Check your My Scholarships page frequently as various scholarships will have different open and close dates.  All Charles City Area Dollars for Scholars Scholarships will be open on January 2, 2020, and will close at 11:59 p.m. on March 2, 2020.  Your profile must be submitted as an application for a matched Charles City Area Dollars for Scholars scholarship by 11:59 p.m. on March 2, 2020.


How do I match to scholarships and submit my profile? 

Check in the "My Scholarships" section of your Profile Dashboard to see which scholarships you match to.  This page manages your scholarship applications by listing possible scholarship matches, allows you to submit your profile for those scholarships and keeps a log of scholarships applications submitted. 


Can I submit my profile without the counselor's transcript information? 

The website will allow you to submit your profile without the counselor's transcript verification  and the counselor has the ability to add this information to your profile after your submission.  However, you must have made your request to the counselor by  11:59 p.m. on March 2, 2020 and the counselor must add the transcript information by 11:59 p.m. on March 15, 2020  or  your application will be considered incomplete and you will not be eligible for any Charles City Area Dollars for Scholars scholarships.


Can I submit my profile without a reference?

References are not required for Charles City Area Dollars for Scholars scholarships.


What can I do if I have already submitted my profile for a Charles City Area Dollars for Scholars scholarship and need to make changes, for example, I need to add counselor's transcript information or parental consent?

How do I apply for the Floyd Area Scholarship Fund Scholarship?

Complete the profile on our website, chosing the high school you attend (Gospel Lighthouse Academy or Charles City Community High School).  When the Charles City Area Dollars for Scholars Sholarships open (January 2,  2019 to 11:59 p.m. on March 2, 2020) you should be notified that you are a possible match for the Floyd Area Scholarship Fund Scholarship.  Click on the scholarship for more details.  You will need to answer the following question concerning your eligibility:

Are you a graduating senior attending the Gospel Lighthouse Academy in Floyd, Iowa, or a graduating senior attending Charles City Community High School who resides within the "Old Floyd School District Boundaries"? (Boundaries defined as Floyd Township, Cedar West Township and Sections 25 and 36 of Ulster Township, excluding Section 21 of Cedar West Township and Sections 19, 20, 24, 25, 29 and 30 of Floyd Township)  A Map of this area is available here. If you are a senior at Gospel Lighthouse Academy  or a senior at Charles City Community High School who resides within those boundaries answer yes and submit your profile as your application for the scholarships.  If you need help determining if you live within the boundaries contact us at ccdollarsforscholars@hotmail.com for assistance. 


I am not taking the ACT or SAT, however I have taken the Compass Test or the ASVAB.  May I use these scores instead?

Report your Compass or ASVAB  test scores in the Test Scores Section of the profile.  Just choose "Add Test" scroll down to "Other" and Enter your score.  Our scoring criteria includes points awarded for test scores so it's very important that you include your Compass Score, if available,  if you do not have an ACT or SAT score.
